Khiva is one of the best-preserved historic cities in Uzbekistan and one of the most impressive destinations on the Silk Road. Inside Ichan Kala, the historic center functions as an open-air museum, with minarets, madrassas and mosques concentrated in a compact area.
In 2 days in Khiva, it's possible to explore the main tourist attractions on foot, as all attractions are close together within the historic center. This makes the destination ideal for those seeking a practical and well-organized itinerary in Uzbekistan.

Day-by-day itinerary
- Day 1 — Historic center of Khiva (arrival in the afternoon)
- Day 2 — Main remaining attractions (optimized morning)
Day 1 — Historic center of Khiva
Afternoon
Ota Darvoza — West Gate
Main entrance to the walled city and ideal starting point for the itinerary. One of the main photo spots in Khiva, with its brick towers and direct view of the heart of Ichan Kala.
Mohammed Amin Khan Madrasah
One of the largest madrassas in Central Asia, with turquoise tiles and typical Silk Road architecture. Today it functions as a luxury hotel, but the facade and courtyard can be visited and photographed.
Kalta Minor — Unfinished Minaret
The most iconic monument in Khiva, known for its wide structure and blue ceramic decoration. It was supposed to be the largest minaret in the world, but construction was interrupted by the death of the khan who commissioned it.
Kunya-Ark — Citadel
Former residence of Khiva's rulers. From the top, you can have one of the best panoramic views of the entire walled city, with minarets and domes spreading to the walls.
Muhammad Rahim Khan Madrasah
Today it functions as a museum and presents the history of the Khanate of Khiva, with exhibitions on art, manuscripts and life at court during the 18th and 19th centuries.
Juma Mosque — Friday Mosque
Unique interior with more than 200 carved wooden columns, creating an atmosphere different from any other mosque in the region. The silent atmosphere and light filtered between the columns make this one of the most special places in Khiva.
Toshhovli Mosque (Khodja Berdibai Mosque)
Small and less visited, with detailed wooden interior. One of the most authentic and peaceful spaces within the historic center.
Ak Mosque — White Mosque
Simple and charming mosque, with open verandas and traditional architecture. Good option to escape the crowds in the more touristy areas.

Sunset
Walls of Khiva or Kunya-Ark
One of the best times of day in the city. The sunset light transforms buildings into golden tones and creates a unique scenery for photos — one of the most beautiful shots you'll take in Uzbekistan.
Night
Walking through the illuminated historic center is one of the best experiences in Khiva. With less movement and soft lighting on the monuments, the city gains an even more special atmosphere — very different from what you see during the day.
Day 2 — Khiva in half a day (optimized morning)
The second day in Khiva can be done in half a day, since the city is compact and easy to explore on foot. In about 3 to 4 hours, it's possible to visit the main remaining points without rushing.
Morning
Nurullaboy Palace
Historic palace located outside the walls of Khiva, built in the early 20th century as a summer residence for the rulers. Different from the traditional architecture of the walled city, the palace blends European and local influences, with decorated halls, historical furniture and details that show the transition to a more modern Khiva. It's an interesting visit for those who want to discover a less touristy side of the city.
