4x4 transport is the most practical and quickest way to get there. Local vehicles usually wait near the centre of Stepantsminda and make the round trip along the mountain road.
The fare tends to run between 20–30 GEL per person (approximately €6.70–€10) in shared vehicles, or 60–100 GEL per vehicle (approximately €20–€33) for a private hire. The price can vary depending on the season, demand, number of passengers and the agreed waiting time at the top.
Before setting off, confirm whether the price includes both the ascent and the descent, and how long the driver will wait at the church. Most trips include a stop of about 30 minutes at the top, but this can vary.
Hiking trail
Walking up is an option for those who want to experience the scenery more fully. The trail starts from the Stepantsminda area and follows mountain paths toward the church.
The difficulty depends on the route chosen, terrain conditions and the weather. The route involves a steady climb and can get slippery after rain. Allow several hours for the round trip and bring water, a jacket and appropriate footwear.
Do not start the hike if a storm, heavy fog or a sudden change in weather is forecast. Visibility in the mountains can deteriorate quickly.

Clear days
